There are fleeting instants in life where you swear in your spine that the twig of everything you had planned is about to snap…

Several weeks ago my husband leaned over the back of the couch, attempting to appear ultra calm, cool, and collected (which was an instant tipoff that something was up). He was going for deadpan, but succeeded in a mixture of terrified and giddy at the same time as he said “they asked if I would be interested in a job in England”.  I stopped typing and slowly turned my head to look my husband of ten years in the eyes to find them ever so slightly sparkling. And, I could swear he was holding his breath—if we were playing poker I’d say he was holding a royal flush. He was clearly serious and clearly interested. I have to admit, so was I.

At the first mention of moving to England at the dinner table, my six year old thought a moment, rubbed his chin and then exclaimed with a finger thrust in the air, “We would be like reverse pilgrims!!” Indeed.
